DRESSING THE HOURGLASS SHAPE
The key to dressing an hourglass shape is 1) define your waist and 2) show off your beautiful shape. You have amazing curves—it’s time to embrace them in pieces that define you in all the right places.
DO’s
- Shapely garments especially at the waist
- Soft fabrics
- Emphasise curves without cluttering
- Straight and slightly flared pants and skirts (pencil skirts exaggerates the curve from the hip to the knee)
- Dresses that emphasize the waist
- Tops that fit the waist are wide open on the neckline and has something to divert the eye towards the shoulders like puffed sleeves.
- Simple jewelry.
- Jacket with curved lapel to show off curves, 3 quarter sleeves show off elegant wrists and suggest a delicate frame.
- Shirts that have side fastening but do not button all the way to the top
- Layers are your friend!
- Make sure that dress or top fits the bust foremost as it is easier to take things in at the back.
- A coat with a deep V and full skirt and pockets on the hips.
DON’Ts
- Stiff fabrics
- Cluttering the body
- Baggy styles
- Skirts with open pleats
- Tapered pants
- Flap side pockets on trousers
- Big Belts
- Batwing sleeves
- Deep V-neck fitted cardigans
- Ankle straps shoes, pointy shoes like stilettos or cowboy boots
- Watch that sleeves around the arms don’t cut in.
